Minimal Makeup with a 90s Vibe

I love a good brown lip. Brown shades play nice with my skin tone and just happen to be on trend with the 90s-inspired beauty releases lately. I’ve tried several shades and my preference is always for more of a warm, bright, terra cotta color, as opposed to a duller or more cool-toned shade of brown. Earlier this morning, I did a little exfoliating and masking, so I wanted to keep the makeup low-key to allow my freshly scrubbed skin to breathe.  I focused on a bright, brown lip, and kept the makeup pretty minimal everywhere else.

Makeup Breakdown:

  • Glossier Stretch Concealer in Dark
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – Medium Dark
  • Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso
  • Real Techniques Buffing Brush
  • Japonesque Kumadori Contour and Highlighting Brush

  • Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
  • MAC Paint Pot – Layin’ Low
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – Medium Dark
  • CoverGirl Clump Crusher by LashBlast Water Resistant – Very Black
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil in Medium Brown

  • First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy
  • trestique Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon in Florence Fig
  • Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Pigment in Girl, Please

My under eye area is prone to creasing and the Glossier Stretch Concealer is, unfortunately, no exception. I continue to use it, however, because it provides a very natural finish under the eyes, while depositing enough pigment to hide my dark circles when applied with fingers. It doesn’t really set on its own and even though that would typically be a no-no in my book for creasing, it also means that it keeps my under eye looking dewy and moisturized. I did lightly set the area with my MAC Mineralized Skinfinish, so between that and me running my ring finger under my eye every so often to smooth the product, the creasing is limited. Finding a light-weight, creamy, pigmented, natural-looking, non-drying, non-creasing concealer is not easy, so I take my victories where I can. #concealerstruggles

If your skin tone is close to mine, you have to try the Layin’ Low Paint Pot – it is seriously my lids, but better! And the best part, no ashy-ness whatsoever! It has a great yellow undertone. It addresses my eye lid hyperpigmentation and instantly makes me look more fresh and awake!

CoverGirl’s Clump Crusher Water Resistant Mascara has been a total game changer for me. I no longer get the racoon-eyes that I always experienced when I use any non-water resistant formula AND I get curled, lengthened and separated lashes! This formula doesn’t flake and is easily removed with my go-to Clean and Clear Makeup Wipes. For days when I want a bit more drama, I layer this on top of a lash primer.

The Smashbox Be Legendary formula can be a bit drying, which is why I love pairing it with the FAB Ultra Repair lip balm. This really helps to keep my lips from looking dry throughout the day. And Milani’s Luminoso is a great peachy blush that compliments warm, brown lips!

This whole look came together in less than ten minutes and I can walk out the door feeling ready to face the day! What are your minimal makeup day must-haves? Winged liner? Bold Brows? Highlight.Highlight.Highlight? I’d love to hear about it 🙂
